A bill heading to the Illinois House floor could help students and families better understand the signs and symptoms of Type 1 diabetes

(Springfield-jm) – A bill heading to the Illinois House floor could help students and families better understand the signs and symptoms of Type 1 diabetes. The Illinois State Board of Education and Department of Public Health would be required to create informational resources about the disease and display the materials online. Sponsors said many children and their families are unaware of the symptoms and treatment even though more than 30,000 children across the country have Type 1 diabetes.

(Springfield-jm) – The Illinois House could soon vote on a bill to provide free state IDs to people leaving Illinois prisons and jails. Incarcerated people who previously held a state ID or driver's license would be able to submit a form to the Secretary of State's office. Applicants would need a photo taken by the correctional facility and must provide proof of residency upon discharge.  Sponsors hope people released on parole, mandatory supervised release or a pardon could receive a temporary 90-day state ID if they do not receive a standard ID before they leave a correctional facility.

Urbana officers responded to a hostage call around 4 a.m. in the 700 block of Sunny Lane. The woman told the officers that a man entered her home through a window and that she believed he armed himself with a handgun that was already inside the home. METRO SWAT attempted to negotiate with the man, who was still inside the residence, but he refused. They located Jacob Hill in the crawl space and arrested him. He was preliminarily charged with aggravated unlawful restraint and unlawful use of a weapon by a felon. Hill was wanted for a previous domestic situation which occurred weeks before at the same location. He was preliminarily charged in that case as well.

(Springfield-jm) – A bill headed to the Illinois House that aims to provide financial lending protections for businesses is being criticized as being bad for business. Senate Bill 2234 from state Sen. Christopher Belt, D-Swansea, would provide protections for small businesses when taking out a loan by requiring financial terms such as the amount financed, fees and the annual percentage rate be clearly disclosed at the time an online or non-bank provider makes an offer for a loan. The measure passed the Senate by a 36-19 vote.

(Springfield-jm) – The Illinois Department of Public Health just hit a big milestone in the agency's firearm safety program. Since launching the “Together for a Safer Illinois” campaign in partnership with Illinois State Police and the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs, IDPH has distributed more than 100,000 gun locks to firearm owners across the state. (Ford County-jm) – Ford County has been issued a final property assessment equalization factor of 1.0000, according to David Harris, director of the Illinois Department of Revenue. The property assessment equalization factor, often called the "multiplier," is the method used to achieve uniform property assessments among counties, as required by law. This equalization is particularly important because some of the state's 6,600 local taxing districts overlap into two or more counties (e.g., school districts, junior college districts, fire protection districts).
